Get Ready for the Hype Dome, Pickleball and More at the Gray Academy-Tough Duck Community Ice Rink

It started with a rink

In 2021, we were thrilled to partner with Gray Academy as they opened Gray Academy-Tough Duck Community Ice Rink, thanks to generous capital gifts from Tough Duck; Marla & Adam Levene; and Mira & Matthew Narvey. Since then, children and families have enjoyed hundreds of hours learning to skate, playing pick-up hockey and more wintertime fun on the ice.

Now, we are delighted to share that Phase II of this amazing, 100-per-cent donor-funded development is complete.

Introducing the multi-purpose sports court

We are very excited to announce the addition of a brand-new asphalt surface, which will not only give us a smoother, more stable ice surface in winter but will also serve as a multipurpose outdoor court for a variety of activities. The new surface includes painted lines for pickleball, a favourite pastime for so many Rady JCC members and a new Phys Ed opportunity for Gray Academy students.

This exciting court also features the all-new Hype Dome, a sleek, clear, multipurpose space located right beside the rink/court. This unique space will serve as a year-round hub for our students and the community. Outfitted with seating, the Hype Dome can function as an outdoor classroom for Gray Academy students, a unique programming space for the Rady and Gray Academy communities, a hangout spot, and a sheltered place to lace up skates in the winter.

A 365-day space

These exciting new upgrades offer more ways to enjoy our outdoor space year-round - for Gray Academy students, children at the Rady JCC Kaufman Child Care Centre and Rady Summer Day Camp, Rady JCC members and the entire community.

A valuable community collaboration

We are incredibly grateful to have partnered with Gray Academy, and to all the donors for their generosity and long-term community vision. These new amenities are another example of collaboration and teamwork between Gray Academy and Rady JCC, creating more opportunities for fitness enthusiasts, students, families, tots and seniors to gather and enjoy our shared facilities, including the recently unveiled Gan Re’ut playground, the rink and ample lush greenspace on our campus.

We look forward to seeing everyone in our community enjoy active outdoor fun for many years to come.
